ImageMaker 1.0
Copyright 1999 Eric Shepherd

This software is Shareware. If you find it useful, please pay the $5 shareware fee. See the information at the end of this documentation for details on how to do this. $5 to help ensure further Apple II development is hardly a major price to pay.

What Is It?
ImageMaker is an Apple IIgs application that creates disk images from hard disks, floppy disks, and, really, any kind of disk you can mount on your Apple IIgs. You can make both Universal Disk Image (2IMG) and DiskCopy 4.2 image files using ImageMaker. These images can then be used in Bernie ][ the Rescue, Sweet16, or other Apple II emulators on Mac, PC, and other systems.

In the past, youve had to use Macintosh software to create these images. If you dont have a Mac, youve been out of luck. Now you can make disk images right on your Apple IIgs!

ImageMaker requires System 6.0.1.

Using ImageMaker
ImageMaker is very easy to use. Launch the application and a window will appear, with a list of all your online disk devices. Select the one you want to make a disk image of, then choose the image type from the popup at the bottom of the window. If you insert or eject disks, the list will update immediately to reflect this.

DiskCopy 4.2 images can only be made from 800k and 1440k disks; if you try to make a DiskCopy image of anything else, youll be reminded of this and be allowed to pick a different disk. Universal Disk Image files can be any size.

Once youve picked the file, click the Create button. A Standard File dialog box will ask you where to save the image file. Locate an appropriate directory (make sure the disk is big enough for the image file, which will be a few bytes larger than the original disk!) and type a name for the file.

Note: You cant save an image file on the same disk youre making an image of; ImageMaker wont let you do this (its not safe).

Once you click Save, the process of building the image will begin. A progress dialog box will appear. The thermometer will fill, gradually, as the image is created. You can cancel making the image file by clicking the Cancel button.

The thermometer is updated every 128k of disk image built.

Note: The DiskCopy file format requires a checksum that indicates whether or not the data is valid; building DiskCopy images takes longer than making a 2IMG file of the same size because of this.

Quitting ImageMaker
Once an image is converted, youll be returned to the disk picker window; click Quit to quit, or you can choose another disk to make an image of.

Registering ImageMaker
This software is fully-functional. However, if you find it useful, please pay the US $5 shareware fee.
